Yogyakarta- Mount Merapi eruption hit DIY and Central Java and other disasters attacked earlier taught people to be always ready for any disasters. This readiness has to be supported by parties both in people in structure as well as official sustaining people life, in charge of people facility including hospital and medics.
Therefore, Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center arranged Core Disaster Management Response covering materials to respond disaster by medics, as part of responsibility of Muhammaidyah hospital in preparing for disaster. The training was informed by dr. Ahmad Muttaqin Alim EMDM division of immediate response Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center, met on the break at Hotel Ruba Graha, Krapyak, Saturday (09/04/2011). Alim said, Merapi disaster circles out for every four years, should make people and institutions alert for the threat, thus knowledge and disaster management should be provision. “Hospital obviously plays important role in disaster management, so its activity and role to minimize risk and victims,” he adds.
CDMR firstly carried out by MDMC, according to Alim, will be taken as pioneer for other Muhammaidyah hospitals located in disaster prone areas.“In this event, we are training 6 Muhammdiyah hospitals in the vicinity ofthe slopes of Merapi as response in preparing for Merapi disaster that can come at any time,” he affirms. The materials in the training explained by Alim, are international standards in hospital disaster management. “Recent materials, start from learning disaster pattern of Merapi eruption, victim management, communication patterns in emergency situation. The speakers are from Disaster Medical Experts from UGM, director of Sanglah Hospital, Bali which is first Indonesia standard hospital for standby disaster, and experienced in first and second Bali Bombings,” he explains.
