Muhammadiyah arranges Traditional Archery Competition Mataraman Style

Yogyakarta- Art, culture, and sport Institute, Central executive of Muhammadiyah in cooperation with provincial executive of Indonesia Archery Association (Pengprov Perpani) DI Yogyakarta arranged traditional archery competition Mataraman style Muhammdiyah Trophy” on Sunday, April 10th 2011 at north square Yogyakarta, participated by about 100 archers from Yogyakarta, Klaten, Solo, Cilacap, and other places. In fact, one participant come from Netherlands.

Drs. H. Ahmad Djam’an, M.Pd.I, vice chairman of Art, Culture and Sport Institute, Central executive of Muhammadiyah in charge of sport, said that this international sport competition was Muhammaidyah early breakthrough in actively taking part of developing interest, talent as well as public achievement in sport. Muhammadiyah, Djam’an adds, presently in this period (2010-2015) structurally has an institution to manage sport, called Art, Culture and Sport Institute, formerly known as Art and Culture Institute.

Drs. H. Syukriyanto AR. M.Hum., as chairman of Muhammadiyah central executive in his welcoming speech mentioned that taking part to invigorate sport and arranging archery competition, are part of applying sunnah from prophet Muhammad saw, ordering his followers to actively do sport, particularly arching and horse riding.

For male category, the first winner: Harjanto from Wedi, Klaten, second winner: Pujiono from Jatinom, Klaten, and third winner: Riyadi from Solo. For female category, the first winner: Wiwik AW from Karanganyar, the second winner: Sukarsih dari Kulonprogo, and the third winner: Ari Setyaningsih from Klaten. Each winner get not only trophy but also money for coaching. (Amiruddin)
