Din: Government did neglect

Chairman of PPMuhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin statesthat the reemergence of movement group of the Indonesia Islamic Nation (NII) was due to neglect and omission by the state. According to him, the issue of NII has been there since more than 20 years ago. However, the state did not present to solve this problem. In fact, the Indonesian Ulema Council has made of this decree long ago, but the government still could not finish it.

"MUI decree was a long time as well as advising the warning based on complaints from many parties to become victims of the NII. Incidentally, at the time I was staff MUI and we submitted it to the government. However, no satisfactory solution," said Din Syamsuddin at Muhammadiyahheadquarter, Central Jakarta on Thursday (04/28/2011).

Such neglect, said him, made the group NII easily spread, even to high school and college. Din sees that the state is unable to break the chain of this NII group.

"The NII issues for about 20 years ago particularly at its the roots of DI TII, then it is almost 60 years ago, but no resolution. Not only omission and neglect, but also the inability of nation to cope with this," he added.

Dinsuggests that the community should also take part in preventing the spread of the NII if government appears to omissionindeed. If not, then the issue would NII will only discredit the true Islam which actually never gave radical teachings as spread by NII. (Kompas, Thursday, April 28, 2011)
