MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, BANTUL – Muhmmadiyah confirms itself as an enlightenment movement. One of the efforts to enlighten people is through purification of the monotheism.

The statement was declared by Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Yunahar Ilyas at Pengajian Ramadhan (Ramadhan Preaching) 1440 H at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Friday (10/5).

Yunahar stated that ‘enlightening’ possesses a number of definitions in Muhammadiyah.(10/5).

“First, enlightening can be defined as liberating people from ignorance and poverty. Second, enlightening means empowering,” mentioned Yunahar.

He explained that the empowerment should bear people who are strong on aqidah (creed), worship, morals, congregations, and zakat al-mal (zakat on wealth) so that they are afraid of hell instead of being under arrest.

Dealing with worship, Yunahar declared that Muhammadiyah always seeks to create true religious understanding.

“The religious understanding refers to comprehension leading to obedience and piety so that Muhammadiyah people’s faith can always be maintained,” asserted Yunahar.
