MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA - Opening an event of breaking a fast at Hall of Muhammadiyah Dakwah Center, Jakarta on Tuesday (28/5), General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir advised Muhammadiyah members to be role models.
“Two events of Ramadan preaching bringing a theme of Enlightenment Minutes do not end even though they were done. However, we have to implement enlightening Islamic values in this movement and nation. This is a tough duty,” declared Haedar.
According to Haedar, enlightening Islam refers to performing the best for humanity and disseminating peace, moderate values, tolerance, and anti-anarchism. Besides, for Muhammadiyah, the enlightening Islam denotes evading all fasad (damaging) activities and promoting a tradition of iqra’ (reading) to Muslims and Indonesian people so that they become intellectual.
“Muhammadiyah have undertaken the notions since it was established. One of the enlightening Islamic values is becoming uswatun hasanah, a role model. Actions, says the proverb, speak louder than words,” asserted Haedar.
He added that Islam possesses high values as an enlightening religion so that Muslims should maintain the values wisely.
“Muslims should think whether or not it is good and right. The truth must be told well. Indeed, some values may be proper and improper as well as should be discussed. I encourage all of us to reread sic points of Enlightenment Minues so that Muhammadiyah members can be uswatun hasanah,” emphasized Haedar.
Last, he instructed all Muhammadiyah members to be aware of a responsibility to preserve Muhammadiyah.
“Muhammadiyah is greater than us, the central board, all branches and assets in Indonesia. We are only doing our responsibility. Leading Muhammadiyah seems like herding in order that what we shepherd does not run away. We may not use this power arbitrarily,” stressed Haedar.
Additionally, the event was attended by representatives of the regional board of Muhammadiyah of Jawa Barat, Banten, and DKI Jakarta. The event was also parting of committee of Pengajian Ramadan (Ramadan Preaching) 1440 H.
