A Medical Team’s Struggles to Cross over Flood in Konawe Utara

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, KENDARI - A medical team of Rumah Sakit (Hospital) Muhammadiyah Lamongan (RSML) as a part of the MDMC Indonesia Disaster Emergency Management in Sulawesi Tenggara arrived in Konawe Utara on Friday (14/6). The team had tried to cross over flood cutting off Sulawesi trans routes.

Led by dr. Akbar Rasyid and comprising of three nurses and one admin staff, the team got in a main disaster shelter of Konawe at 5.10 p.m. local time after meeting Health Office of Province of Sulawesi Tenggara.

Reached via a short message, dr. Akbar told that to go to Konawe Utara was challenging and should take a raft so that the team could traverse 70-cm flood occured in several areas. When this news was posted, the Muhammadiyah team was undertaking assessments in Tangguluri, Asera, Konawe Utara which would become a Muhammadiyah service center.

Meanwhile, a logistic team went there with a truck carrying rice, baby food, medicines, and hygiene kits. The team went after the medical team and are still attempting to get across the flood because the truck could not go by the raft. Several vehicles got stuck in the middle of the flood as their engine was off so that they had to get back to a previous disaster shelter to plan the next consignments.
