MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA - Collaborating with a Special Envoy for Interfaith Dialog and Cooperation, Jaringan Intelektual Berkemajuan conducted an interfaith dialog for progressive civilization at Gado Gado Boplo Cikini Raya on Thursday (27/6).
The speakers of the dialog were Chairpersons of Angkatan Muda Muhammadiyah such as Chairwoman of Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah Diyah Puspitarini, Chairman of Ikatan Pelajar Muhammadiyah Hafizh Syafa’aturrahman, DPP of Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah Najih Prasetyo, and Chairman of the Central Board of Pemuda Muhammadiyah Sunanto.
At the opening, Chairman of Central Board of Muhammadiyah as well and special envoy for Interfaith Dialog and Cooperation Syafiq A. Mughni informed that an aim of the dialog was in accordance with a vision of the special envoy, namely “international peace will not occur without interfaith peace.”
“We expect that differences in this plural state become a cohesive strength. We have to manage the diversity to create a more equitable world. Besides, we promote wasathiyah, moderate, and tolerant Islam,” declared Syafiq.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Central Board of Pemuda Muhammadiyah Sunanto stated that conducting a dialog of tolerance for Indonesian people whose literacy quality is low in the world is not easy.
He also conveyed that the strengthening of religious symptoms emphasizing religious identity and symbols instead of religious values compound efforts to create interfaith tolerance.
“In a tolerance context, this nation is supposed to become a role model of diversity and harmony in this world. The problem is that we are now using religious symbols instead of religious values which lead us to argue one another. We are not done with the literacy and dialog yet, but we require the tolerance. The chaos has happened due to some methods, not the teaching values,” maintained Sunanto.
Last, he contended that it is necessary for the special envoy to conduct various of dialogues for community and religious figures to improve quality of literacy and create ideal tolerance atmosphere.
