MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, SLEMAN - Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah for Health and Social Services Agus Taufiqurrohman prompted Muhammadiyah schools to apply Islamic values in teaching and learning.
In his remark at SD Muhammadiyah Kedung Banteng 1 on Friday (5/6), Agus expected that students of Muhamamdiyah schools, particularly in Yogyakarta, can memorize juz 30 when graduating.
“Muhammadiyah is an Islamic movement so that Islamic generations should recognize Islam since they are children. Rasulullah says,’When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen.’ Thus, reciting Al-Qur’an is a primary need,” declared Agus.
Why does Muhammadiyah not use a term of an integrated school? Agus explained that Muhammdiyah schools have integrated Islamic learning and technology development.
“Hence, a religious learning system has been designed since the era of Ahmad Dahlan at Muhammadiyah schools,”informed Agus.
Kiai Ahmad Dahlan noticed that religious learning was finite at a school of Budi Utomo so that he established Muhammadiyah possessing a learning system which fused religious learning and science.
Agus, who is a former chairman of Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Daerah Istimewa lahiYogyakarta (DIY), expressed his pride as a alumnus of SD Muhammaidyah Kuwon (Gunung Kidul). Even though the school is located in a remote area, the school offers great religious learning.
He also appreciated SD Muhammadiyah Kedung Banten 1, established since 1929, for having national figures as Malik Fadjar (currently serving as Member of the Presidential Advisory Board) and the Deceased Syamsuhadi Irsyad (Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia as well as Former Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto).
