MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, BANTUL - General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir attended a gathering and an inauguration of Indonesia Sociologist Association (ISI) of Yogyakarta on Monday (8/7) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Haedar encouraged all sociologists to think about the future of this nation.
“All sociologists should offer a change for this nation. I believe that sociologists are able to explain national issues from various perspectives so that people do not get angry easily when confronting the problem,” declared Haedar, who is an alumnus of Department of Sociology of University of Gadjah Mada (UGM).
The sociologists also need to learn beyond positivism through an interpretative approach.
“I may not know that, in political science, the pragmatism of American politics is more well-known than the philosophy-based continental politics. Thus, approaches of Indonesian politicians become more pragmatical and hard-line. It is proven that amendment of the UUD 1945 is a product of a positivist and pragmatical politic science, which makes it lose its political philosophy,” asserted Haedar.
He also expected dialogues among Indonesian sociologists so that conflicts during Elections 2019 reoccur in 2024.
“If the issues ensue over and over, Indonesia will miss occasions to be a developed country,” added Haedar.
According to Haedar, public remains stuck after the 2019 elections which drives their critical thinking weaken, particularly in this era of social media.
“Many people become hot-headed and short-sighted so that we cease to in the sociological position to talk about the future of Indonesia,” conveyed Haedar.
