MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, MALAYSIA - Muhammadiyah will establish Universitas Muhamamdiyah Antarbangsa Malaysia in Perlis, a stated in North Malaysia. The plan was commenced by a meeting between Tuanku Raja Muda Perlis, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullai and Muhahammadiyah representatives on Thursday (11/7).
General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir stated the Universitas Muhamamdiyah Antarbangsa Malaysia will offer master’s degree and doctoral programs which meet needs of Indonesia, particularly of Muhamamdiyah higher education.
“We expected that Universitas Muhamamdiyah Antarbangsa Malaysia can begin this academic year. We firstly would like to name the university, Universitas Buya Hamka, since many Malaysians adore Buya Hamka, a Muhammadiyah scholar who enlightened Malaysians,” informed Haedar.
For two days in Malaysia, Muhammadiyah representatives visited Universitas Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP), Universitas Teknologi MARA (UiTM) dan Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPS) to initiate cooperation.
Meanwhile, in his remark Datuk Asri Zainal the initiation will link two cities, Yogyakarta and Perlis, and two civilizations.
“We wish that there will be a new civilization as a city enlightening science, charity, and religion,” he hoped.
Additionally, the Muhammadiyah representatives having the visit were Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir, General Secretary of Muhamamadiyah Abdul Mu’ti, Chairman of Muhamamdiyah Dahlan Rais, Secretary of Office of Higher Education, Research and Development Muhammad Sayuti, and Rector of Universitas Muhamamdiyah Kalimantan Timur Bambang Setiadji, Rector of IBM Bekasi Jaenudin, and Chairman of Muhammadiyah Special Branch Sonny Zulhuda.
