Visiting Palu, Haedar: Learn from Each Disaster

PALU, MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID - General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir ascertained humanitarian project after the Palu disaster on Saturday (31/8). One of the areas affected by the disaster is Sirenja District, Donggala, Palu.

Haedar stated that Muhamamdiyah has existed and brought vigor of Al-Maun. “Muhammadiyah charity and services as well as institutes have applied Al-Maun. The disaster is Allah’s will and this is a test for us. No one expects and wants this disaster,” declared Haedar at Masjid Al-Munawar Sirenja.

He inserted that what occurred should be a lesson for us to have muhasabah and ta’awun. “Disasters happened in not only Palu but also many areas of Indonesia. We have to take a lesson of Allah’s will and become a faithful servant of Allah,” asserted Haedar.

“We may not lament over the calamity, but it is a lesson for us to comprehend verses of Allah so that we can be more faithful,” he advised.

We should learn from each disaster, and look around us. We may neglect a lot of Allah’s blessings. We may be less grateful, careful, and introspective.

Thus, we need to have ta’awun towards the disaster, emerge awareness of taawun within ourselves and our environment, posses mutual cooperation to undertake recovery.

“What Muhammadiyah carries out is for not only ourselves but all people without distinguishing ethnic groups and religions. Indeed, we have to do justice to heathens,” adder Haedar.

In general, Muhammaidyah collaborating with Muhamamdiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) and Solidar Suisse (a Swiss Non-Governmental Organization) handed over 189 boats and 250 units of boat engines to fishermen in Sirenja. The movement also cooperated with HEKS to provide 89 temporary shelters.

Afterward, Muhammadiyah together with the Solidar Suisse will empower the community from July 2019 to July 2020. “1,300 families will receive a Cash Transfer Program (CTP) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Meanwhile, in collaboration with the MDMC and HEKS Switzerland, 390 CTPs are given to construct houses,” informed Rahmawati Husein, Deputy Chair of the MDMC.
