Collaborating with Peace Generation, Muhammadiyah Promotes Disaster Education through the Sekolah CERDAS

MUHAMMADIYAH. ID, JAKARTA - Sekolah CERDAS (Ceria, Damai, dan Siaga Bencana - The CERDAS (Cheers, Peace, and Disaster Preparedness) School)) is a sustainable program initiated by PeaceGeneration of Lazismu and Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC).

The program aims to prepare schools from disaster risks and social disasters. In 2017, the Sekolah CERDAS was conducted in Central Java and in 2018 and 2019, the Sekolah CERDAS 2.0 was expanded to several areas of Indonesia such as Cianjur, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY), Surabaya, Nusa Tenggara Timur, and Maluku.

This year, Muhammadiyah organizes the third batch of the Sekolah CERDAS in Bandung Raya including Bandung Regency, Bandung Barat Regency, Cihami City, and Bandung City. The program is held in 17 schools recommended by Office of Education of each regency/city.

This third batch will last for three months, from September to November 2019.

In the third batch, the Sekolah CERDAS collaborated with Lazismu to effectuate the launching of ‘Sekolah CERDAS 3.0 Batch III’.

Furthermore, the program can enhance public awareness of the significance of disaster mitigation education.

In the launching, Lazismu handed over 50 school kits to Lazismu of West Java and SD Muhammadiyah Sukajadi.
