Haedar’s Recommendations to 7,000 New Students of UMM

MUHAMMMADIYAH. ID, MALANG - General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir attended an Orientation Day of new studentsat Dome of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Monday (2/9).

He stated that Muhammadiyah was established and has developed in both Indonesia and 27 countries.

“Muhammadiyah exists to educate people, this nation, and the world,” declared Haedar in front of 7,000 freshmenof UMM.

Muhammadiyah borenational heroes striving for the independence of Indonesia.

We have to learn from the national figures. They were smart youths enlightening the civilization and evolving Indonesia.

“Thus, during your study, you should learn history and prepare for your future so that you can benefit your society,” asserted Haedar.

He also advisedthe students. First, a university should be a place to develop themselves and their al akhlak al karimah.

“You have to be noble future generations of this nation. Successful people making history in the civilization of a nation are the ones who possess characters of honesty, trustworthy, willingness, and moral,” asserted Haedar.

Second, Muhammadiyah including Muhammadiyah higher education institutions instills values and tradition of iqro.

“The first verse of Al-Qur’an is not dealing with prayer, zakat, fasting, but iqro. Iqro is not only a tradition of reading but also to embody ulul albab that the capability to think synergizes with strength to pray (dzikir).

Third, you have to be sincere, endeavor, and perform goodness.

“No matter how great your knowledge is, it will be useless if you do not apply it. Knowledge does not tell us to be at the top. We have to look at national figures. They devote themselves to other people and this nation without desiring to be famed. Muhammadiyah figures always live modestly since they have great characters to always perform goodness, and their knowledge and faith become their power,” emphasized Haedar.

Last, he maintained that this nation will welcome the golden age or a century of Indonesia. Haedar believed that golden generations should comprise of people who would like to sincerely foster, educate, and enlighten this nation.

“Your knowledge should make people modest and eager to advance this nation. Our nation should compete and fastabikul khairot with other nations. When you become national figures, you may not think about yourself and your group’s interests, but you have to speak for people, this nation, and universal humanity,” stressed Haedar.
