MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA - Concerning with displaced political asylum seekers, a commissioner of Independent Independent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) Ahmad Azam Abdul Rahman collaborated with the Central Board of Muhammadiyah.
His visit to Muhammadiyah Dakwah Center, Jakarta on Monday (2/9) was welcomed by General Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti.
Ahmad Azam stated that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Malaysia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia seeks to cooperate with Muhammadiyah to resolve issues of Muslim refugees seeking political asylum since the movement possesses an enormous network and influence in the world.
“The OIC discerns Muhammadiyah as the greatest Islamic movement in Indonesia and has leaderships which bring huge impacts overseas. Thus, if we have an agreement, I believe the issues can be solved,” declared Ahmad Azzam.
He conveyed that Muhammadiyah is needed to reinforce and defend human rights. If we only rely on countries having interests, the defense to Muslim refugees will not run as the OIC expects.
“We would like to strive in order that the displaced political asylum seekers of Uyghur, Rohingya, and Arab countries affected by wars are not deported. Indeed, they may be jailed or murdered. They have rights to fight for,” asserted Azzam.
“We wish that this is a temporary win-win solution in order that they obtain services as humans. Hence, it is essential to working together with Muhammadiyah. The issues are Islamic in the context of Muhajirin and anshar so that Muslim refugees have short-lived shelter,” ended Azzam.
