MUHAMMADIYAH. ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah offers condolences on the passing of the third President of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. B. J. Habibie.

“May he be husnul khotimah, may Allah forgive him and may he have the best place in heaven,” expressed General Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti on Wednesday (11/9).

Mu’ti declared that Habibie was the best Indonesian statesman and has brought huge contributions to this nation in areas of education, research, and technology.

“Government may endow Prof. Habibie Bapak Teknologi Indonesia (Indonesia’s Technology Father) and a democracy figure instilling modern political foundations of Indonesia,” conveyed Mu’ti.

In Muslims’ view, Habibie was an intellectual Muslim who successfully established the Indonesian Muslim Intellectual Association (ICMI), maintained a scholar tradition among Muslims, and enhanced Muslims’ self-confidences in various realms.

“Prof. Habibie’s death is a great lost for Muhammadiyah and Indonesia. However, Muhammadiyah believes that there will be thousands of young Habibies who proceed his scramble,” he believed.
