Responding to a Riot in Wamena, Abdul Mu’ti Urges All Parties Not to Propagate Provocative Statements

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA –General Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu'ti urged government to expeditiously cope with a riot breaking out in Wamena, Jayawijaya, Papua on Monday (23/9).

“Muhammadiyah is concerned about the riot. We may not go silent, and it should be overcome,” declared Mu’ti.

He required security forces should firmly penalize actors and provocateurs of the riot. Besides, a dialogue with community is necessary to conduct to resolve the conflict.

“Government has to invite community leaders, including religious leaders, to solve the conflict,” asserted Mu’ti.

He added that Muhamamdiyah requests all parties to cool down and not to propogate provocative statements and provoke controversy. The parties are expected to be engaged in surmounting the resolution.
