MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA –United Stated Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Joseph R. Donovan Jr. admired Muhammadiyah for being a proper role model to promote values of tolerance and peace.
“I relish this visit. Muhammadiyah exemplifies religious freedom and diversity, values which the United States (US) and Indonesia uphold,” stated the ambassador in a diplomatic visit to Muhammadiyah Office, Jakarta on Tuesday (15/10).
Donovan also appreciated commitments and roles of Indonesia, particularly Muhammadiyah, in solving global issues such as human rights. Besides, he talked about cooperation in human resource development in areas of health and education.
“We confer our successful partnership in media literacy against corruption and public health. I boost Muahammadiyah to remain expressing a concern on human right infringements,” conveyed Donovan.
Meanwhile, General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir discussed issues of human rights violations by People’s Republic of China to the Uighurs in Xianjiang, Rohingya, Muhammadiyah’s view on Islam moderation in the world, and issues Papua.
Additionally, Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti recommended that Papua issues should not merely be resolved through political approaches.
“Papua issues are complex, and need comprehensive resolutions. Several approaches should be undertaken such as economic, social, and cultural approaches as Majlis of Community Empowerment of Muhammadiyah has performed by integrating Papua people through higher education institutions and Muhammadiyah charities,” asserted Mu’ti.
