Improving People’s Economic Independence, Muhammadiyah Collaborates with Seven Sharia Banks and KPPU

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA– To develop people’s long term economy, the Central Board of Muhammadiyah signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) and seven banks, namely Bank Syariah Mandiri, Bank Mega Syariah, Bank BNI Syariah, Bank BRI Syariah, Bank DKI Syariah, Bank Muamalat Indonesia, and Bank CIMB Niaga Syariah.

Conducted at Muhammadiyah Office of Jakarta, General Treasurer of Muhammadiyah Suyatno stated that the collaboration brings mutual benefits for both parties.

“We seek to synergize strengths needed by banks and the KPPU. The banks expect Muhammadiyah having thousands of assets to engage in the banking system. Muhammadiyah also possesses interests to protect its charity and services from riba (usury). Thus, this is a huge business and should be supported,” declared Suyatno.

Meanwhile, Chair of Indonesia Sharia Banking Association (Asbidindo) Toni Eko Boy wished that the cooperation could create a new flow of sharia economy in Indonesia.

“Sharia banks have evolved more rapidly than conventional banks. We would like to thank you for trusting us. Muhammadiyah is a vital partner,” expressed Tony.

Besides, to improve sharia economy development, Muhammadiyah cooperates with the KPPU. Together with Muhammadiyah, the KPPU attempts to achieve healthier economy.

“Muhammadiyah has roles through its charity and services which, I personally believe, they can foster human resources through this cooperation,” conveyed a representative of Chair and Commissionaire of the KPPU Ukay Karyadi.

Additionally, the MoU was signed by Chairman of Muhammadiyah Anwar Abbas and witnessed by Chairman of Muhammadiyah Syafiq Mughni and Goodwill Zubair.
