MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, SURAKARTA – Chair of Indonesian Ulema Council Din Syamsuddin, Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, Treasurer of Muhammadiyah Marpuji Ali, and Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) Sofyan Anif played roles in Ketoprak at GOR of UMY on Saturday evening (28/12).

The Ketoprak was performed by RRI Solo and artists of Solo. Directed by Edi Sulistiyono, the Ketoprak engaged 45 people to present ‘Sang Surya Amajari’ telling the establishment of Muhammadiyah by K.H. Ahmad Dahlan.

In the one-hour performance, Din Syamsudin, Ganjar Pranowo, Marpuji Ali, and Sofyan Anis acted as Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VII (Sultan of Yogyakarta Sultanate 1877-1921), General Governor of Central Java, Danurejo (Patih Dalem of Yogyakarta Sultanate), and Adipati Anom (Sultan of Surakarta Sunanate) respectively.

Din conveyed that the ketoprak performance is representing a theme of the 48th Muhammadiyah Congress, namely ‘Developing Indonesia, Enlightening the Universe.’

“The theme presents a characteristic of Muhammadiyah since this movement symbol is sun,” stated Din.

He explained that the sun is viral for this life and all creatures. Thus, Muhammadiyah symbolically aims at discovering and enlightening this earth as also mentioned on lyrics of Sang Surya.

“If the earth is a country or a planet where humans live and establish civilization, the sun is crucial for the life occurring on the earth,” maintained Din.
