A Film of “Jejak Langkah 2 Ulama” Links NU and Muhammadiyah

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir commented a film of ‘Jejak Langkah 2 Ulama’ (Milestones of 2 Islamic Scholars) after the movie screening conducted at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) on Tuesday (25/2). He stated that he felt touched by struggles of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan and K.H. Hasyim Asy’ari to defend this nation.

“I could not hold my tears. The film was emotional and depicted incredible endeavors of the two figures, even though I believe what was shown on the film was only some of their efforts. It is quite impossible to display all of their hard work,” expressed Haedar.

Haedar contended that the film illustrated a relation between a Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan and K.H. Hasyim Asy’ari. Haedar, then, told that he was once required to deliver a lecture on Contemporary Islam that he must learn it from books about K.H. Hasyim Asyari’s books.

“Seven years ago, I had to give a lecture. I bought many books about K.H. Hasyim Asyari. After I read them, I saw him as a wonderful person,” declared Haedar.

He also maintained that the film can be a link for Muhammadiyah and NU to understand each other and reduce arguments which break unity. For Muhammadiyah people, the film is a beginning to know NU, and for NU people the film is the first understanding of Muhammadiyah movements.

“The future of Islam and Indonesia relies on these two huge organizations. If the people grasp struggles of both movements, I am sure that we are as one. We will become a power for our religion and nation,” asserted Haedar.

He expected that the film could be disseminated and could reach millennial generations. In fact, the two figures studied in Mecca and got back to their hometown to devote themselves.

“To spread the film to millennial generation is a duty of Social, Cultural, and Sports Board (LSBO), Tebuireng, and all of us. We do not need to rent a studio to play the film, we only need the film to be on screen intensively throughout Indonesia. If all Muhammadiyah and NU people watch it, it means that it has been thousand billion people see it,” ended Haedar.
