Darul Ahdi Wa Syahadah, A Political Effort of Muhammadiyah

MUHAMMAMDIYAH.ID, SIDOARJO – General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir emphasized that a concept of Darul Ahdi Wa Syahadah is a novel effort of political Islam. It was stated in a seminar of the 48th Muhammadiyah Congress conducted at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo on Tuesday (3/2).

“This is a political attempt of Muhammadiyah and can be included in new fiqh siyasah (Islamic political knowledge) along with correlation between Islam and a state,” declared Haedar.

He explained that the concept of Darul Ahdi Wa Syahadah is an official concept and document of Muhammadiyah which was ratified in the 47th Muhammadiyah Congress in Makassar. It becomes the one and only official document, concerning with Islam and the state, owned by an Islamic movement.

Furthermore, Muhammadiyah believes that a position of Muslims towards the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) has been obvious since founders of this nation, including an Islamic figure Ki Bagus Hadikusumo (Former Chairman of Muhammadiyah) who was a member of the Investigating Committee for Preparatory Work for Independence (BPUPKI), formulated Jakarta Charter.

Haedar wished that the charter becomes a guideline to live in this nation including a relationship between Islam and the state.

“Thus, Muhammadiyah formulated the concept “to secure” and evade thoughts to establish other concepts of a nation different from what have been agreed,” affirmed Haedar.

It has been settled the NKRI as a state of Pancasila. Haedar mentioned that several aspects underlie the concept of Darul Ahdi Wa Syahadah. First, it deals with a theological foundation that having faith in Islam does not mean possessing a certain concept of a state, power, and political system.

Even though there is a concept of khilafah (a caliphate), in details and technically it does not refer to the system. A state system associated with the caliphate system is considered ijtihad (an effort).

Second, it is related to a historical reason. After Prophet Muhammad performed dakwah in Medina, naming Medina as Al-Madinah Al Munawaroh refered to a developed system and civilization.

There was a political element, but it did not address a particular state system. Prophet Muhammad did not appoint anyone to substitute him because it was an area of ijtihad. Therefore, it emerged a caliphate system from Abu Bakar to Ali Bin Abi Thalib.

Haedar added that the most essential aspect is that Muhammadiyah does not only conceptualize Darul Ahdi Wa Syahadah but also implement Umatan Wasthan functioning as Litakunu Syuhada that Muhammadiyah will develop and has developed this nation,” maintained Haedar.

Hence, Haedar encourages all Muhammadiyah people and elements of this nation to confirm that Muhammadiyah will always commit to foster this Pancasila state.

“For the ones who declare themselves having the highest sense of nationalism, let us show that loving Indonesia and believing in Pancasila should be in accordance with basic principles of Pancasila,” affirmed Haedar.
