Led by dr. Corona Rintawan, Muhammadiyah Establishes Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – As stated by General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir on Monday (2/3) that Muhammadiyah hospitals are ready to treat COVID-19 patients, Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center was officially established on Thursday evening (5/3) to accelerate a program to cope with the virus. Muhammadiyah initially prepared 15 hospitals, but the number increased to be 20 hospitals. The program aims to educate and promote the virus prevention in schools, higher education, and community.

The establishment is a follow-up to a mandate from Majlis of Public Health (MPKU) and Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC). As assigned procedures, simulation and preparation to confront the virus were undertaken at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta, RS PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul, and other Muhammadiyah hospitals.

Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Agus Taufiqurroham informed that dr. Corina Rintawan is appointed to be a leader of the Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center.

“We trust him to lead the team because of not only his name but also his capability,” conveyed Agus.

Afterwards, an emergency specialist of RS Muhammadiyah Lamongan as  well as a coordinator of emergency medical team of Muhammadiyah for an international mission presented a profile of the leader.

 dr. Corona Rintawan revealed that team will commence to create programs engaging Muhammadiyah networks. “We will discuss the prevention, screening, and initial management. Muhammadiyah will leverage all potential to assist government to fight the virus,” affirmed dr. Corona.

The preventive actions are a campaign to Muhammadiyah schools and higher education institutions, including teachers and students who have visited other countries. The campaign encompasses how to use a mask and hand sanitizer, promotes ethics of cough and sneeze etiquette, and presents early virus detection.

Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah hospitals are prepared to provide initial treatment when a patient is suspected as a COVID-19-infected patient. The hospitals are selected based on distribution of work areas and agreed by the MPKU.

Additionally, the programs to schools, higher education institutions, and community will be conducted with coordination with Majlis of Primary and Secondary Education; Majlis of Higher Education, Research and Development, Lazismu, Aisyiyah, IPM, IMM, and all Muhammadiyah cadres.
