Instilling Empathy and Humility in the Midst of this Pandemic

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir encouraged Muhammadiyah people to raise their empathy, togetherness, and humility.

He admonished the people to be busy broadening their horizons instead of getting engaged in gratuitous debates.

“This pandemic may bear movements of ukhuwah and taawun, a sense of brotherhood, and modesty. If we cannot alleviate burdens, at least we can contribute to break the chain of COVID-19 infection,” advised Haedar in Pengajian Umum Pimpinan Wilayah Muhamamdiyah Jawa Barat on Saturday (19/5).

He also wished that this pandemic may trigger the people to enhance their knowledge and faith.

“We can expand our understanding of verses of Al-Qur’an dealing with the universe. We have to mold our empathy. This pandemic should broaden Muhammadiyah people’s horizons which are burhani, bayani, irfani, enlightening, and providing solutions,” asserted Haedar.

“We, as the believers and Muhammadiyah people, should reinforce our faith in Allah, enrich our knowledge, and become faithful individuals,” added Haedar.

“We hope that this pandemic will end soon, and as Muslims we possess tough views of life, more knowledge, and a sense of empathy. We have to maintain and develop the values,” ended Haedar.
