Discipline and Candor Are Keys of the COVID-19 Mitigation

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA –Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman stated that solemnity and collective work are essential aspects to confront a new normal. Here, media play roles as a pillar of democracy in promoting facets and educating this nation.

The aforementioned statement was declared in a media gathering conducted by the Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center (MCCC) on Monday (1/6) at Muhammadiyah Office, Jalan Cik Ditiro No. 23, Yogyakarta.

“Media are a pillar of democracy. A state with excellent democracy must possess media taking great roles in educating the nation,” stated dr. Agus.

Collaboration between non-governmental organizations and media can be portrayed in efforts to improve the life of the nation. According to dr. Agus, all elements are responsible for preserving this nation and maintaining welfare of the people.

To cope with this pandemic, various institutions with their own roles are expected to synergy. Impacts of this outbreak should be diminished so that guidance is necessary to achieve the goal.

Furthermore, dr. Agus propelled all elements to determine a follow-up and to learn from other countries in tackling the COVID-19. Even though means of facing the coronavirus of others countries are technically different from Indonesia’s methods, their experiences remain essential.

“We may learn from other countries although we are dissimilar in terms of demography and archipelagoes,” he conveyed.

Learning from other countries is vital so that Indonesia will not face the same issues. Some countries have relaxed their pandemic curbs and implemented a new normal. Several countries are successful, but some reenact restrictions.

The restrictions are redone since the curve elevates after the relaxation. Thus, Indonesia is expected to take appropriate actions. Although a vaccine is not found yet, we can remain controlling and preventing the COVID-19 transmissions.

Discipline is a key of the COVID-19 mitigation. dr. Agus contended that ineffectiveness of large-scale social restrictions is caused by indifferent and undisciplined attitudes of some people.

Clashes between one policy and another policy should be synchronized soon. Overcoming the next wave of this pandemic entails solemn steps and synergy of each element of this nation. If guidelines and protocols exist, our duties are to perform and monitor all programs to be well-executed.

Besides harming affected people, the increasing curve brings huge impacts on health workers. They work wholeheartedly, devote their life, and cannot meet their family to save COVID-19 patients.

The outbreak also impacts people’s economy, social relations, and other aspects.

“We may not underestimate lives of the people, neglect COVID-19 positive patients, and disregard people around us getting welfare issues,” asserted dr. Agus.
