MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA – The Independence of Indonesia could be achieved due to, one of them, roles of Muhammadiyah figures. However, according to General Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti, the fact is hardly ever found on Indonesian historical manuscripts.

“Some people do not recognize essential moments and processes of the founding of the Republic of Indonesia, particularly the formulation of Pancasila as the state ideology. Historical books rarely mention contributions of Muhamamdiyah figures and Muhammadiyah as a movement,” declared Mu’ti at a monthly preaching of Muhammadiyah on Friday (14/8).

At the preaching raising a theme of “Muhammadiyah, Pancasila, and the Independence of Indonesia,” Mu’ti contended that the rare authentic writings would detach the future and the root. Thus, an initiative to write reliably is an effort to sustain struggles of the founding fathers to future generations.

Furthermore, Mu’ti mentioned four Muhammadiyah figures engaged in the formulation of the 1945 State Constitution and Pancasila, namely Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Kasman Singodimedjo, Abdul Kahar Muzakir, and a proclaimer of the independence of Indonesia Soekarno.

Ironically they, but Soekarno, received a title of a national hero after Muhmmadiyah attempted to propose it.

“Hence, a historical legacy is crucial. We are fighting over history,” affirmed Mu’ti. He also talked abour Muhammadiyah women’s engagement in the Investigating Committee for the Preparation of the Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI).

He, then, wished that Muhammadiyah people could be active and dynamic in determining the future history of Indonesia.

“Our programs are pioneering, creating notions and breakthroughs in designing the future of Indonesia. Therefore, Muhammadiyah, Islam, and nationality is a unity adhering to people of this movement,” ended Mu’ti.
