Cak Nanto Encourages Cadres of Pemuda Muhammadiyah to Impersonate Abdul Mu’ti

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, JAKARTA – To congratulate General Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti on his inauguration as a professor of Islamic Education of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, the Central Board of Pemuda Muhammmadiyah  (Muhammadiyah Youth Association) conducted a virtual discussion joined by representatives of Pemuda Muhammadiyah members throughout Indonesia on Friday (4/9).

Opening the discussion, General Chairman of Pemuda  Muhammadiyah Sunanto expected that Pemuda Muhammadiyah cadres could impersonate Abdul Mu’ti and his struggles from growing in a village to becoming a professor.

“His endeavors must not be easy, but an essential aspect is that Pak Mu’ti put great attempts to achieve tremendous. We need to trigger ourselves to emulate his success,” encouraged Sunanto to the cadres so that a tradition of Muhammadiyah to benefit others can be expanded.

In his inauguration, Abdul Mu’ti who was also Former General Chairmain of Pemuda Muhamamdiyah 2002-2006 delivered a remark on ‘Pluralistic Religious Education: Value Bases and Renewal Direction’. He stated that the future of diversity of Indonesia can be enhanced through inclusive, contextual, fun, and flexible Islamic education.

Besides, an intellectual Habib Husein Jafar attended the discussion and he agreed with Mu’ti’s notion of a curriculum transformation of Islamic Education.

He conveyed that issues of intolerance have currently emerged due to religious reasoning which views the world dialectically and dichotomously, black and white between Islam and Jahiliyah without understanding reality and social aspects.

The dualistic view is against Sunatullah on diversity. Habib Husein contended that habituating noble attitudes is often overlooked so that it is vital to promote the need of Islamic moral ethic practice.

Furthermore, a delegate of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Australia Imran Hanafi considered that a follow-up of Pak Mu’ti’s inauguration speech is on policy makers.

“I think that Muhammadiyah and government should do a follow-up. If political will and a follow-up do not exist, we will see the problems (religious intolerance and violence) will be prolonged and become a burden for not only Muslims but also this nation,” he asserted.
