MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah offers condolence on the passing of Bapak Jacob Oetama on Wednesday, 9 September 2020 in Jakarta.

General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir stated that during his life Bapak Jacob Oetama devoted himself to developing the press of Indonesia and expressed his thoughts to educate this nation.

“I met him and had discussions with him several times. I could learn his views and I think his capacity transcended journalists so that he became a visionary national figure. He once was a speaker at Tanwir Muhammadiyah (a conference prior to Muhammadiyah congress) 2002 in Denpasar, Bali talking about cultural dakwah and culture of Indonesia in the future,” told Haedar on Tuesday (9/9).

“Last time I visited him he had strong excellent memories of Indonesian history even though he got older. His thoughts of humanitarian values were astonished. Indonesia loses a thinker and humanist who had broad horizons. Goodbye, Pak Jacob Oetama,” expressed Haedar.

Pak Jacob, a founder of Kompas Gramedia, passed away at Rumah Sakit Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Jakarta on Wednesday (9/9/2020).
