Haedar Nashir Officially Opens the Online Mataf of UMY

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – New students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) are obliged to join Masa Ta’aruf (Mataf/an orientation day) to familiarize themselves with the university. The Mataf of academic year 2020/2021 was conducted virtually from Monday to Wednesday (28-30/9).

Due to this COVID-19 pandemic, it was impossible to organize a face-to-face Mataf since the students are from various areas of Indonesia.

One of the speakers of the Mataf was General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir.

“Be an intellectual for Muhammadiyah, other people, and this nation. You have to impersonate figures, who have great integrity and faith,” declared Haedar to 5,711 new students.

Raising a theme of “Solidarity of Intellectuals with Integrity, the other speakers at the Mataf were Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. Dr. Muhajir Effendy, Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey H.E. Dr. Lalu Muhamad Iqbal. In his remark, Chief of the Mataf Hasan Nopremon stated that the theme represented a must for students to be critical, creative, innovative, objective, communicative, and responsible.
