Muhammadiyah May Not Get Trapped in Historical Romance

MUHAMMADIYAH.ID, YOGYAKARTA – It has been 92 years since Sumpah Pemuda (Youth Pledge) on 28th October. Commemorating the Youth Pledge in the next two weeks, General Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti stated that Muhammadiyah has never been trapped in a protracted romance without offering any solutions to state issues.

“What we have to learn is that the youth was present and give answers to a problem. Now, the youth issues are not simple,” declared Mu’ti in a monthly preaching of Muhammadiyah on Friday (16/10).

Muhammadiyah cadres participating in the Youth Pledge was able to notice challenges and be confident to bring a local and Islamic symbol as identity to strengthen unity instead of an instrument to disunite.

Abdul Mu’ti encouraged Muhammadiyah youth to recognize challenges, assist people from an identity crisis, and promote vigor of unity based on the religion in a universal language and real social actions.

“Indeed, we can be confident with Islam because we exist to offer solutions with the Islamic teaching. Thus, intelligence is essential. Youth has vital roles in determining future. That is what Muhammadiyah can do so that we do not only talk about Muhammadiyah but also see the future,” asserted Mu’ti.
