Alert for Accident during Holiday, MDMC held Simulation in Responding to Aircraft Crash

Surabaya-Saturday morning (2/7) a Boeing 737 aircraft made an emergency landing at Juanda airport Surabaya due to failure to fly. Suddenly the plane with full passengers hit residents’ house causing large explosion noise and fire.

After the accident, immediate rescue teams from MDMC, Basarnas, PMK, BNPB, and the Navy came to secure the aircraft and evacuate casualties. Victims first removed from the airframe to a radius of several meters up to a secured location. In these places, awaiting Medical team did its task to help the victims.

This plane crash incident caused and situation rose in tense, especially with the blaring sound of sirens. Followed by the arrival of 30 ambulances that brought the victims back and forth to the nearest hospital. In addition, tent hospital was built around the wreckage to continuously provide help for the casualties.

This was a picture in the simulation "Responding to Casualties of Aircraft Crash" held by the Disaster Management Agency - Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (LPB-MDMC) in collaboration with the National SAR Agency (Basarnas), Navy and Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya.

This joint exercise was directed witnessed by the chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive Din Syamsuddin at the Navy Air Port Juanda Sidoarjo, Saturday morning, (02/07/2011). Din was accompanied by the chairman of MDMC Budi Setiawan as well as Chief of LANUDAL Juanda, Din Syamsuddin followed the simulation process participated by 300 people.

Budi Santoso, chief of the joint exercise Muhammaidyah volunteers expressed that the simulation was aimed to build coordination system among the volunteers to be always ready and alert in emergency response, either in natural disaster or crash, for example. This was also proposed to show the society, how Muhammadiyah organization was already ready to involve in non conventional disaster management.

The event was of series of joint exercise and national conference of MDMC Muhammadiyah Hospitals over Indonesia for three days, 1-3 July 2011, held at Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya. This event was participated by 60 people who were from DMC (Disaster Medic Committee) team Muhammadiyah Hospitals over Indonesia, particularly from Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and other cities.
