UM Yogyakarta Launch Jusuf Kalla School of Government

Yogyakarta-After the New Order's authoritarian leadership, democratization required leadership in solving various problems the nation was facing. With good leadership, then the various problems of the nation could be overcome. HM Jusuf Kalla as a national leader was seen to have success in solving various problems and issues such as the nation's public policy issues and other conflicts.

This was stated by the Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Dr. Achmad Nurmandi on Wednesday (13 / 7) at UMY Campus Press Conference of the Launching JK School of Government, which was the cooperation between the Government Science UMY with HM Jusuf Kalla.

Furthermore Nurmandi explained, the school was expected to build a good leadership because a leader, as in Nurmandi’s narration, should be able to manage conflict. "In a democratic country, significant contributions a leader could give in governance, was not only able to resolve a conflict but varied conflict in a relatively short time," he added.

In the same occasion, Director of Master of Science Administration (MIP) UMY, Dr. Ulung Pribadi added that through this school later the students would gain insight, experience from JK’s experience both nationally and internationally. "In addition they will also learn that a quick decision-making in government is necessary with proper planning and implementation. It can also be learned from the figure of JK, "he said.

Meanwhile, UMY Rector, Ir. Dasron Hamid M.Sc said JK School of Government was established as an attempt to produce future leaders candidate with character and morality based on Islamic values. "JK is a leader and businessman. So it is hoped that it can inspire the students," he explained.

Associated with the selection of names, he said, Jusuf Kalla had been proven to contribute greatly to his public policy success and to manage conflicts, particularly in the areas of Aceh, Ambon and Poso. He was also able to respond to accurate decisions and quick, and show his dignity and pride to nation of Indonesia. "So the name is to tribute to JK," he explained.

The school was expected to become leading institution for researchers and practitioners in the Science of Government in Asia in 2025 and in the world by 2035 through research programs, exchange of students and lecturers, conferences, and publications.
