Malang Regency - Two hundred underprivileged residents in the village of Asri Katon, Kecamatan Pakis, Kabupaten Malang obtained assistance from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Sunday (24/07). They got free medical treatments and food packages at the program of Bakti Sosial Ramadan held by UMM in collaboration with Laziz of Muhammadiyah of Kabupaten Malang, Leadership of Muhammadiyah of Kabupaten Malang, and Branch Leadership of Muhammadiyah Pakis.
Representing UMM, secretary of BPH, Drs. Wakidi, hoped that the aids would be appreciated though not many. With gratitude, then Allah's blessings will be multiplied. On the contrary, if we reject His blessings, God will punish us.
"The collaboration performed by UMM is a form of concern to the community. Thus, we hope that people of Asri Katon would be happy to welcome Ramadan," said Wakidi.
For treatment UMM brought four doctors, five nurses and one pharmacist, assisted by several students to serve the health of citizens. "Insyaallah, the health service is quite good because it is handled by people who are experts," added Wakidi.
Committee Chairman of Gema Ramadhan UMM, Nursubekhi, ST, MT, explained this social service was a series of activities that takes place throughout the month of Ramadan of this year. In addition to social service, he said he had set up some other programs such as studies, i'tikaf, as well as tarawih and morning recitation.
"This year, we also coordinate all the activities of fasting break in each unit and faculty with the planned schedule. The fasting break of lecturers’ and staffs’ families was filled with the 'Asr prayer in congregation, Islamic teaching, and then forwarded to the fasting break and doing Maghrib prayer in congregation," explained Nursubhi. This activity would be centered at the second floor AR Fahruddin mosque.
In addition to Pakis, the social events would also be held in Kecamatan Ampelgading and Karangploso. Both will be held in mid-Ramadan later. "We deliberately chose the three remote locations because they require a dakwah touch directly," said Nursubhi.
A beneficiary, Suriah, said she was happy with this UMM social service. She enjoyed getting health checks and medicines she needed. The women who were old enough complain that she often experienced stiffs and hoped through this treatment the pain would decrease the. "Alhamdulillah, hopefully the cures fit me," said Suriah, carrying her food parcel from the committee.
