Yogyakarta-Three agenda had been agreed by the Faculty of Social and Political Science University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) with the School of Social Sciences, University of Science Malaysia (USM). In the MoU, there were three agenda, namely student exchange for the Department of International Relations and Government Science UMY (International Class), Department of Communication planning visits UMY to the School of Communications in January 2012, and joint national seminar with KANITA (Woman Research Center) conducted in 2012.
The MoU was signed during a four-day visit of Fisipol UMY to USM, Tuesday-Saturday (26-30/6). This visit was followed by twelve representatives from UMY consisting of the Rector, Dean of the Master of Science Administration, Master of Science Administration Secretary, and lecturers.
According to Dean of Fisipol UMY, Dr. H. Achmad Nurmandi, M. Sc, the student exchange would be done by providing free tuition fee for outstanding students included in a student exchange. In addition, in October 2011 University of Science Malaysia would visit the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta to agree on MoA (Memorandum of Action).
Nurmandi added, 15 papers would be published at the same time with Woman Research Center seminar. The fifteen papers consisted of eight papers from University of Science Malaysia and seven pieces of paper from UMY. All of the paper would discuss women and gender, which would then be reviewed and made books to publish in Malaysia. From UMY, the paper would be presented by Prof. Dr. Tulus Warsito, Dra. Mutia Hariati Hussein, M. Si, Titin Purwaningsih S. IP, M. Si, Tri Hastuti Nur, M.Si, Dra. Nur Azizah, M. Si, and Dr. Dyah Mutiarin.
Meanwhile, the Department of International Relations (HI) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UMY also conducted joint seminars with Faculty of Social Science and Humanities Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), on Monday (25/7). Located at UKM campus, the colloquium themed "Indonesia-Malaysia Relations" was completed by 8 lecturers from HI UMY by commentators from the UKM.
According to Muhammad Ali, SIP, MA, head of the Department International Relation of UMY, this activity was a seminar response from the UKM to UMY visits in 2006 and at that addressed issues on terrorism. It was also an inaugural joint seminar conducted internationally by HI UMY. "This is the first time that the department of International Relation collectively perform joint seminar. This is a good development that needs to be transited," explained Ali.
This activity, according to Ali, was very useful as a forum for HI lecturers to convey his ideas in international forums; Number Credit enhancement (CCP) for lecturers; and department accreditation. "This activity is great to increase international work hours of HI lecturers within the go-international effort," he explained.
