Surakarta – Former General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive, Amien Rais, suggested that the selection for Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah (IMM) membership was done through Al Quran reading, as Al Quran is the guidebook for humans’ lives.

He also encouraged the Regional Leadership Council (Dewan Pimpinan Daerah/DPD) IMM to conduct a simple course of Arab language learning for the students to study Al Quran. The skill of Arab language will ease them of fully understanding the real meaning of the verses in Holy Quran.

“It will be better if people who want to be the member of IMM Central Leadership Council (Dewan Pimpinan Pusat/DPP) are selected through their Al Quran reading,” he said in general lecture on Peran Politik Islam dalam Mewujudkan Indonesia yang Berkemajuan in Half-Century Muktamar XVI held in auditorium building of Moh Djazman Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) on Friday (5/30).

As the man who was born in Solo 70 years ago stated, besides Al Quran, humans’ lives guide reference includes nature law and history. It was stated in Al Quran that Allah will not change the fate of a people unless they do something to change themselves.    

This includes the change in the nation, where the Nation will not be able to move forward without the society’s full participation. The citizens’ participation can be through their active part in politics.

Since the opening by Din Syamsuddin, the General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive on Tuesday (5/27) until Saturday noon (5/31), the XVI Muktamar IMM has not organized the committee for the XVI Muktamar. However, there are already 44 prospective committee candidates for the selection of 13 members of Muktamar XVI committee. Then, it will be decided the general chairman of DPP IMM for Muktamar XVI.
