Muhammadiyah to Attend the Itsbat Session of the Ministry of Religious Affairs

Yogyakarta – Tomorrow, Friday (27/6), the Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold an itsbat session to determine the beginning of Ramadan 1435H. Ministry of Religious Affairs will begin its session at around 16:30 PM and the results will be announced to the public at 19:30 pm.

 

According to one of the members of central board of Muhammadiyah, Yunahar Ilyas, relating to the trial Itsbat revealed that Muhammadiyah will attend the itsbat which will be held tomorrow afternoon. It is because the new Minister of Religious Affairs had come to Muhammadiyah and specifically asked to attend that routine itsbat conducted before determining the beginning of Ramadan. "The new minister of religion comes to meet Pak Din (Muhammadiyah chairman) and Muhammadiyah central board members. The Minister of Religious Affairs invited us to participate in Itsbat session that will be held tomorrow, "He said at the office of Muhammadiyah, Yogyakarta on Thursday (26/6). But according to Professor of University of Muhammadiyah of Yogyakarta, Din also asked several important requirements to be implemented in the itsbat session.

 

First, according Yunahar, the Minister of Religious Affair should be able to be fair when there are different views on the Government perspective. Of course, the Minister of Religious Affairs should respect hisab calculation method used by Muhammadiyah which has issued the initial decision of Ramadan, Shawwal, and Dzulhijah of 1435H. Second, the central board of Muhammadiyah requested that itsbat session would not be aired lively to the public, and then The Minister of Religious Affairs could hold a press conference related to the results of the itsbat session.  

 

Furthermore, according to Yunahar, Minister of Religious Affairs said the government would meet these requirements, and Muhammadiyah chairman, Din Syamsuddin, planned to send delegates to the itsbat session in response to the fulfillment of the terms of Muhammadiyah. (Dhar) (mac)
