Yogyakarta - There is a difference about the start of Ramadan between Islamic organizations. Muhammadiyah decided the 1st of Ramadan 1435 H falls on June 28, 2014. Muhammadiyah's decision was taken based on hisab hakiki wujudul hilal method.
As stated by Vice-Chairman of the Tarjih and Tajdid Council, Oman Faturahman, SW in the interview on the 5th floor of Asri Medical Center building when he joined team Astronomy Observatory team in monitoring the new moon (hilal) on Friday afternoon (27/6). Oman added that it had met three (3) criteria of hisab hakiki wujudul hilal on June 27th at 15:10 pm.
First, it had already occurred ijtima ' or a conjunction between the moon and the sun. Second, ijtima 'must take place before sunset. And third, at sunset moon is still above the horizon, regardless of its degree.
"Before sunset in Yogya, hilal (moon) is above the horizon at 0 degrees 48 minutes. It means that is already in existence, "he said. However, monitoring carried out by a team of tajdid and tarjih assembly of Central Board of Muhammadiyah could not see it due to unfavorable weather conditions in Yogyakarta.
Oman argued that the monitoring of the new moon yesterday (Friday) did not intend to determine the beginning of the month, but the science observations. "Not just for today, we often make observations. In many opportunities, Muhammadiyah astrophotography teams often conduct monitoring and calculations. Monitoring the new moon is not to determine the beginning of the month but to test the results of the calculation. For example if there is a difference, we want to find whether the calculation or the observation is error.” He said.
This Doctor of UIN Sunan Kalidjaga added, in principle, the astronomical matter is about theories including calculations that form along with the equations. On the other hand, the observation, in this case, cannot be separated. "So the observation (rukyat) and computation (hisab) control, test, and reinforce each other. It means that Muhammadiyah did not abandon observation (rukyat), but it can be said that Muhammadiyah, in determining the beginning of ramadhan, use hisab method instead of rukyat because rukyat see the new moon to determine the beginning of the month. "He concluded. (Dhar)
