Banda Aceh - Aceh governor, Zaini Abdullah and Muhammadiyah Chairman Din Syamsuddin, inaugurated the building campus of the Muhammadiyah University of Aceh. This building was the New Zealand government aid consisting of a lecture building, library and labs worth more than 20 billion.
"With the construction of the new building, I hope the emergence of the spirit of learning and creativity of students as future generations of Aceh is raised up.” said Governor of Aceh, Zaini Abdullah in Banda Aceh, (4/9).
In his speech, Governor Zaini Abdullah also said the presence of the new college building at the Muhammadiyah University of Aceh was able to generate new energy for students in achieving their goals for the good of the future of Aceh. In addition, he also hoped the presence of the new building could continue to establish friendly relations with New Zealand, particularly in the field of education.
The college building inauguration was marked by the signing of the inscription and ribbon cutting at the entrance made by the Governor Zaini Abdullah, Chairman of the DRPA, Hasbi Abdullah, and the New Zealand Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr David Taylor.
Do not Treat Islamic Law as a Specter
Chairman of Muhammadiyah, Din Syamsuddin, said the imposition of Islamic law in Aceh should be greeted with an understanding of Islam as kaffah. Enforcement of law in this province will be a model for other regions, along the application of Islamic law in Aceh in the context of an advanced civilization. But if there was a miss implementation of the Islamic law, it would be a frightening specter.
It is said Din on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new building of Muhammadiyah University (Unmuha) of Banda Aceh sponsored by New Zealand Government on Thursday (4/9) in Campus Unmuha, Luengbata, Banda Aceh. According to Din, Islamic law should not only be formal legal basis, but must be undertaken seriously by the people of Aceh.
Aceh, he said, has a special characteristic because of the strong Islamic faith. On the other hand, the central government has given freedom to the people of Aceh to implement Islamic law. However, he said, there was a challenge for the leaders and the people of Aceh that if they were not careful in implementing the rules, then the program of Islamic law could be counterproductive. But otherwise, if it was successful, it would be a positive value and becomes a model for other regions. With that success, he said, other areas would follow the Islamic law in Aceh.
According to Din, the principle of Islamic law encouraged progress, progressive, according to the nature of Islam as a religion of progress. However, when Islamic law was only narrowly understood and conservative, it would fall on the things that are formalistic (a mere formality), oriented formal legality, and fiqiyah.
He explained that the application of Syariah in Aceh such as the prohibition for women to sit astride on a motorcycle in Lhokseumawe, the requirement of women to wear a skirt in Aceh Barat, and flogging for people who did gambling, drunk, and khalwat were small trinkets of the imposition of Islamic law which were very relative and must be applied in context.
However, he said, the very essence of the Muslim life was advanced and modern cultural life. "It should be understood that Islam is a progressed and civilized religion," he said. (Dhar)
