Din: The Decision of Muhammadiyah on 1 Syawwal is not deliberate

Yogyakarta - The decision of Central Executive of Muhammadiyah on 1 Syawal 1432 H, which is similar to August 30, 2011, is purely based on religious consideration, not something done deliberately.

That was stated by General Chairman of Central Executive of Muhammadiyah, Din Syamsuddin, after delivering Eid preach at the square of Keraton (Royal Palace) Yogyakarta on Tuesday (30/08/2011), “Because the decision of Muhammadiyah is purely based on religious consideration, the government should guard Muhammadiyah,” said Din. Din stated that based on Constitution 1945 article 29 concerning the state guarantee in having religion and worshipping, the government should not determine 1 Syawwal but should decide Eid-al-Fitr holiday. Nowadays, almost all countries in the Middle East, Africa, some ASEAN countries, even western countries have set 1 Syawwal 1432 H similar to August 30, 2011.

In his Eid-al-Fitr preach attended by thousands of people, Din stated the importance for Muslims to balance the quantity and quality. In the country which is struggling to awake, we should take lessons from Ramadhan and apply them in later months.
