Taking Advantage of Local Wisdom to Resolve Conflict

Bantul– World peace is an issue that attracted the attention of many people, including the academia. However, the resolution of the conflict between countries or rival groups sometimes did not get a specific portion from the local government.

DinoPatti Djalal, the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as the keynote speech, brought the issue  in the event Opening Ceremony Mahathir Global Peace School (MGPS) III: 'Interstate Relations and Global Justice for Peace and Conflict Resolution' at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) The event which was organized jointly by the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) would be held for 10 days, from Monday (1/12) to Wednesday (10/12).

Dinostated that local and central government of Indonesia had no records or detailed documentation regarding conflict resolution and local knowledge (local wisdom) to be used as a lesson of wefaced the similar conflicts in the future. In fact, local wisdom could be used as part of efforts to resolve the conflict.

Moreover, said Dino, Indonesia was a country that was rich in local wisdom that could be used to resolve conflict. It was because the local wisdom contained many policies in all aspects of life, including conflict resolution.

"Indonesia should be able to use local wisdom as one of the instruments of conflict resolver. However unfortunately, local wisdom that comes from all over the archipelago is also not well documented until now. Indonesia has a lot of local wisdom, but it does not have an index or category for local wisdom to be used as a reference in establishing harmony among individuals and groups, "said Dino, as quoted from the pages of UMY, Thursday (12/04/2014).

He then continued that the event such as the MGPS one was oneway of another for Indonesia and other countries to continue exploring any efforts of conflict resolution in the country. It was also supported with the desire to support the world peace.

Heargues, all countries also deserved to ackowledge the social diversity, traditions, cultures, and religions of other countries. Founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) was also urged that the world community had to confront globalization with an open and positive mind.

"We have to see that the era of globalization is an opportunity. We have more opportunities in the era of globalization to be able to take part in the international community, including our efforts to create peace, "he said.
