Jakarta – The General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Youths, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, stated that the quarrel between the Commission of Corruption Eradication of Indonesia (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi/KPK RI) and the Police of Indonesia (Kepolisian Republik Indonesia/POLRI) did not fool the people and impede their logic reasoning from reading the real intention of POLRI towards one of KPK commissioners, Bambang Widjojanto.

This was stated by Dahnil when he was contacted by the Muhammadiyah editorial staffs on Monday (01/26). Dahnil said that for Muhammadiyah Youths, by making BW as the suspect was a concrete act of crime, in order to slowly weaken KPK; however, the people could not be fooled that this case clearly “violated the law” for certain political interest. Dahnil also hoped that Jokowi as the President should act stricter regarding this, and he should not hide behind his statements as a president. “Jokowi should be brave to act stricter and he should hide behind his statement by saying that he did not want to intervene with this matter, Jokowi should be brave to stop this conflict by cancelling the inauguration of Budi Gunawan, and suggested another person to hold the position of KAPOLRI.”

Furthermore, Dahnil added that they should make clear the position of Bambang Widjojanto in this case, the law enforcement should keep going. For law enforcing institutions, the lecturer of Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang noted that people should stop using law institutions for short-term political tool.

On the other hand, the former General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Ahmad Syafii Maarif in his speech in front of some chairmen of Muhammadiyah autonomous organizations and the chairmen of Muhammadiyah Universities (PTM) and hundreds of people from students, lecturers, the all faculty members of UMY in Lapangan Bintang UMY, Bantul, expressed his support towards KPK and hoped that big organization like Muhammadiyah would not stand still witnessing the political chaos in Indonesia. “The statement from former Wakapolri Ogroseno is a very good thing, which stated that the arrest of Bambang Widjayanto was not illegal, I am utterly happy that there is still good cop. Ogroseno is also included in the independent team formed by the President, this time, the President chose the right person. I really appreciate, and hope that the President would really listen to the people’s aspiration, and Muuhammadiyah under the mission of amal ma’ruf nahi mungkar should not just stand still, we should be in the front line of offering support to eradicate corruption,” he affirmed.
