Tajdid Muhammadiyah in Women’s Issues

Yogyakarta – Muhammadiyah as organization had the awareness towards women’s rights according to its historical context. This matter could be seen through the attention and sincerity of KH Ahmad Dahlan in realizing his concern in the fulfillment of women’s right by establishing Aisyiyah as an organization for Muhammadiyah women.

The Council of Tarjih and Tajdid of Muhammadiyah Central Executive (MajelisTarjihdanTajidPP Muhammadiyah) collaborated with PP ‘Aisyiyah in organizing Focus Discussion Group and a day seminar taking the theme of PandanganMuhammadiyahTerhadapPerempuanTinjauanTeologisdanPraksis. The event was held last Saturday (04/04) at PP Muhammadiyah office in JlnCikDitiro, while the seminar was held on Sunday (04/05) at kampusStikes ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta.

In the opening of previous FGD, the Chairman of the Council of Tarjih and Tajdid of PP Muhammadiyah, Syamsul Anwar stated that the discussion was conducted to reflect Muhammadiyah’s vision on women, which was seen by the society of being quite ‘progressive’ was adabulmar’ahfilislam. According the Professor of UIN SunanKalijaga, Muhammadiyah vision was like fluctuating wave, sometimes being eager in paying attention to women.

The Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, YunaharIlyas attended as the keynote speaker. The discussion was continued by other Muhammadiyah public figures, Amin Abdullah and Muhammadiyah Female Researcher, SitiRuhainiZuhayatin. The Public Seminar was attended by the Professor of Faculty of Cultural Studies of UGM, who was also the Chairman of PP ‘Aisyiyah, SitiChamamahSoeratno, and a public figure from Muhammadiyah Central Java, Muhammad Tafsir.
