Din Syamsuddin Speaks in the Religious Leaders Forum in Tokyo

Tokyo- Prof. Dr Din Syamsuddin, the General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive, who is also Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council, became a speaker at the Dialogue between Muslim Leaders and Religious Leaders in Japan in Tokyo on Friday (10/4). The forum was initiated by Rabithah 'Alam Islamy (World Islamic League), Religions for Peace Japan, and the Japanese Muslim Society. With the theme "In Pursuit of Shared Visions for Peace", it was attended by Muslim leaders and also other religions in Japan as Buddhist, Shinto, Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Japan.

DinSyamsuddin became the speaker at the session of 'Religious Values and Common Challenges ". In his presentation, Din Syamsuddin stated that religions need to show a positive and responsive role to the problems of Asia, particularly in welcoming the rise of East Asia.

"The resurrection happens following the gravity center shifts of the world economic from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Resurrection is a continuation of Asian modernization that has been going on since the second half of the 20th century, "said Din.

Religions, Din continued, could display the moral, ethical, and spiritual powers. Therefore, it was necessary to perform dialogue, cooperation, and partnership between religions, particularly between Islam and the religions in Japan. In the Dialogue, there was also Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister, Secretary General of Rabithah 'Alam Islamy, President of WCRP Japan.

On March 15 to 17, 2015, Din Syamsuddin was also in Japan. Din was invited to be a speaker at the International Symposium in The Roles of Religion on Disaster Risk Reduction. The symposium was held in order to commemorate the four years of tsunami that strucked eastern Japan on March 11, 2011.

Many leaders such as UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and Indonesia Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended the remembrance. In his presentation, Din asserted that Muhammadiyah contributed in tackling natural disasters, such as  the tsunami in Aceh, earthquake in Yogyakarta, eruption of Merapi, Wasior flood, Maumere flood and Sinabung eruption. Muhamamdiyah humanitarian action through MDMC (Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center) received appreciation from various circles in Japan. Even less MDMC also participated in Hayyan Philippines and Gaza Palestine. Dr. Rachmawati from MDMC presented and spoke in Sendai too.

DinSyamsuddin as President of the Asian Conference on Religions for Peace (ACRP) also asked to read the Islamic prayers at Memorial Park, Memorial Japanese Tsunami in Sendai that killed 200 thousand people. (mst)
