General Chairman: Muhammadiyah Kept Doing Constitutional Jihad

Surabaya – Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya held a Pre-47th Muktamar Muhammadiyah Seminar with the theme of reconstruction paradigm of Muhammadiyah social service on Sunday (05/17).

The seminar was also held to welcome the 47th Muktamar Muhammadiyah in Makassar. Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya also held another series 47th Pre-Muktamar events, such as book review and discussion with the theme of Membaca Muhammadiyah, which was held on Monday (05/18).

In the meantime, in the Pre-47th MUktamar Muhammadiyah Seminar that was held in Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya, the General Chairman of Muhammadiyah, Din Syamsuddin stated that in the seminars, one of the topics that would be the main discussion would be constitutional jihad that was already done by Muhammadiyah which was by rejecting the idea of surrendering the price of fossil fuel to the mechanism of free trade.

“We think, the government’s policy by raising the price referring to the fluctuation of the world oil price is against the decision of Constitutional Court,” he affirmed.

It was also added by the Muhammadiyah Central Executives that the price of fossil fuel should not be adjusted to the world oil price.

“Then we hope and inquire to pay attention to the decision, because this is constitutional principle and actually we have sent letter to the Constitutional Court asking for explanation, but the government does not realize the existence of the decision or will ignore the constitutional decision because by ignoring that decision, this will only bring malice to low-middle class people,” he stated.

This was caused by the efforts done in the governance of Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla to surrendering the decision of fossil fuel price to the mechanism of free trade. With the cancellation of UU Migas, then practically, the rule did not have legal power.

“If there is another effort from the government that does not fit with the Constitutional Court, then we should firmly reject the idea of surrendering fossil fuel price to the mechanism of free trade,” explained the General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah for two periods. (dzar)
