Second Century, ‘Aisyiyah to be more sensitive to Social Problems

Sleman – Entering the second century in the calculation of Miladiyah calendar, ‘Aisyiyah as the oldest women organization in Indonesia should become an organization that should be more sensitive to the existing social problems.

This was stated by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive, Abdul Malik Fadjar as the Keynote Speech on the Pre-47thMuktamar ‘Aisyiyah Seminar on Saturday (05/230 at STIKES ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. According to Malik Fadjar, that was a concrete form of the role re-actualization of ‘Aisyiyah in the society. The re-actualization could be done by encouraging the emergence of female writers and made the universities as organizations to stimulate thoughts. “Reactualization should be absorbed and pioneered by STIKES,” said he.

Malik Fadjar also added, ‘Aisyiyah should understand historical document as a form of self-reflection. He thought that a movement would become stagnant if it did not know the traces that they had made. Malik made an example of ‘Aisyiyah’s role in the first women congress in 1928 as a form of reflection of tracing ‘Aisyiyah’s role in the past.

“SitiMunjiyah and SitiHayinah (the representatives of ‘Aisyiyah) did not only come as supporters. They were involved and became as the witness for history of women’s movement,” explained Malik.

Therefore, ‘Aisyiyah re-actualization towards the second century should be a practical movement that had the sensitivity on the existing social issues in the society. “’Aisyiyah should be able to position itself, should be able to have a role in every field on the second century,” he concluded.
