Development cooperation exhibit between Germany and Indonesia takes place at UMY

Yogyakarta- Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) hosts the event of Development Cooperation betweenn Germany and Indonesia (JERIN) taking the theme “Creativity and Diversity” organized by Deutsche gesellschaft fur Interntaionale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW). The event is been conducted from Friday to Wednesday (3-9/11) at the lobby of AR Fahruddin Building at integrated campus of UMY.

The secretary of German Ambassaddor to Indonesia, Christoph Seeman being present at the exhibit explains that there are 3 points of development cooperation. The first is climate change. So far, Germany and Indonesia cooperates to develop low carbon economy and to preserve natural diversity. Investment on sustainable energy is done in the big scale.

The second focus is Germany is a partner of Indonesia in developing good governance  and decentralization. This belongs to democratic participation and public service for people all over Indonesia. "Another sector is a private sector that contributes in developing helathy environment to create employment availability in private sector, including micro and middle business," said he.

Seeman also says that for the past 5 years, the cooperation has developed Indonesian's capacity in building infrastructure and qualified work force. For years, the government of Germany cooperates to strengthen a save-loan program to overcome poverty. "We choose places for applying this program," he said.

In the meantime, UMY Rector Ir. H. M. Dasron Hamid, M.Sc hopes that the event becomes an inspiration for students to learn doing new innovations. That is done by Germany to solve some problems. "This is important for UMY to support an event that can develop science and technology, so students' horizon will develop," said he.

UMY becomes the third university that hosts the event after being done in Jakarta and Surabaya last October. This exhibit will be done in some cities in Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatera until Februari 2012.

Apart from exhibition, this 6-day event present some agendas, among others, a dialog “Crisis Management adn Sutainable Innovation: Cooperation between Indoensia and Germany in Yogyakarta 2006-2011” presented by the former secretary of Yogyakarta Tri Harjun on Thursday (3/11), Seminar on Strenghtening Citizen’s Role in Local Governance Jumat (4/11), and Workshop “Climate Strategies for Cities” on Wednesday (9/11)
