UMM rector to be preacher at Bern, Swiss

Commemoration of 1432H Eid ul Adha at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Sunday (6 / 10) lasted without the presence of the rector, Muhadjir Effendy. Unlike previous years, Muhadjir who often refused the invitation as a preacher as he prefers to stay at the campus community together during Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, at the time he was unable to refuse invitation to be preachers at the Embassy of Indonesia in Bern, Switzerland.

The rector was in Switzerland after couple weeks in the United States (U.S.) to meet the Education Secretary (Minister of Education) of the United States together with Ministry of education and culture of Republic Indonesia, M. Nuh and other 29 rectors. From the U.S., the rector directly flew to Switzerland responding to the invitation from Ambassador Djoko Susilo, whom is Muhadjir’s old friend.

In Switzerland, apart from delivering sermons, Muhadjir also visits Zurich University Teaching Hospital for comparative studies. In the largest hospital Muhadjir together with two UMM faculty appointed to be committee to build RS UMM, will study the management of educational hospital. Previously Muhadjir also have a study visit to several hospitals in China to study the management of hospitals that provide traditional medicine.

In Bern Muhadjir will deliver speech on the
sacrificial altruismvalues.According to him, the sacrifice is a symbol of unity. History experienced by Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice teaches us how love to God would beat the love of wealth and family. "Sacrifice is a manifestation of the divine peak. Therefore it is not only to involve the sacrifice of material and physical, but also spiritual," said Muhadjir, shortly before traveling to the U.S. some time ago.

History who sent Ibrahim to offer sacrifice his son Ishmael, and eventually replaced with animal sacrifice, Muhadjir said, is a symbol of stopping the ancient tradition before Ibrahim’s life. At the time, people sacrificed both children and woman to show their love to God. Despite having a high spiritual value as a form of devotion to God, it was not merely human sacrifice.

He exemplified, the Aztecs in Mexico, offered human’s blood and heart for the sun god, the Ball worshiped by Canaanites - Iraq to present of the babies, the Vikings in Northern Europe to sacrifice their religious leaders to satisfy the Odin the War god and the prettiest girls in Egypt must be willing to be drowned as offerings to the goddess of the Nile.

"Then God wants to stop the uncivilized and wasteful ignorance. Then through a recurring dream he commanded Ibrahim to slaughter his eldest son Ismail as, which was then replaced by God with large sheep. This marks that human should not be used as thing to sacrifice," continued Chairman of Muhammadiyah in East Java's Regional executive.

Islam is not only a religion but also anthropocentric, which pays attention to aspects of humanism. According Muhadjir, as caliph in the earth man who loves his God to realize it by loving human beings. "That is why, sacrifice in Islam is not in a god to God but rather in the form of altruism, love one another".

Thus, unity is very close to humanity. Love of God is to be realized by sacrificing egoism, selfishness, wealth, family, even the office.

God does not ask for His sacrificial animals. Flesh and blood of sacrificial animals would not come to Him. In this case Muhadjir also cites the Qur'an Surah Al-Hajj verse 37, that is up to Him is faith.
