Jakarta- English Department of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA (UHAMKA) held a workshop and seminar with the theme 'Brain-Based Language Testing' at UHAMKA main campus in Pasar Rebo, Jakarta, on November 8, 2011.

The Seminar was officially opened by Deputy Rector III, Dr. Gunawan Suryoputro, M.Hum. 250 participants consisting of students, alumni, and lecturers were present. The seminar was also attended by Kasubdit Direktorat Pendidikan Menengah Kemendikbud (Head of Directorate for Middle Education of National Education Ministry of Indonesai), Dr. Ir. Agung Budi Santoso, MM and the FKIP Dean of UHAMKA, Dr. Edi Sukardi, M.Pd.

The Head of English Department, Martriwati, M.Pd  says that the international seminar and workshop presenting  a sole speaker from the USA, Lance Knowles, who is also the President of DynEd International involves Higher Learning, an international institution.

According to Martriwati, the seminar aims to open network for UHAMKA alumni who spreads at various educational institutions. Besides, the seminar can be an event to exchange information among the alumni. “Through the seminar, I hope the alumni can broaden their network, so there is communication concerning English education," she told  Warta UHAMKA.

Martriwati asserts that the alumni have worked at various educational institutions. Therefore, the seminar can be reunion as well as halal bi halal. After the seminar, English department alumni management will be formed.

The Dean of FKIP, Dr. Edi Sukardi, M.Pd really appreciates the seminar conducted by the English Department. He says this can be a moment to develop the department at the university level, so it can attract more new students.
