Yogyakarta- Some polls conducted by media on next presidential candidates reveal no alternative figures such as young people. There seems to be partiality from survey institute toward old politicians to keep leading.
That was stated by Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, the secretary of Hikmah and Public Policy Institute (LHKP) of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Regional Executive during the restricted discussion of Ahmad Dahlan Corner at PP Muhammadiyah building on Jl Ahmad Dahlan No.103, Yogyakarta, Friday (11/11/2011). “People seem to be driven to select a leader belonging to the category of 4L, meaning Lo lagi Lo lagi, (it's you again). This creates a worry since the old figures prove not to be able to change the situation," said he. However, on the other side, Bachtiar is also worried with young politicians whose performance tends to be corrupt. “Recently, the performance of young politicians are not good due to various scandals involving young politicians such as Nazaruddin, Anas Urbaningrum, Al Amin nasution, etc,” declared he.
According to Bachtiar, the image of young politicians are not good, similar to old politicians. The prospect of young politicians seems to be bleak. Apart from bad imaga of young politicians nowadays, the political reality in this country doesn't give enough room for young generation to emerge. “Political parties are still dominated by old generation, so it creates 'urut kacang' tradition (tradition based on seniority," added he.
In the future, acoording to the alumnus of Gadjah Mada University's graduate program, there should be alternative figures who are free from corrupt image and are able to take a firm action in leading Indonesia. “One of big problems in Indonesia nowadays is weak leadership. Nowadays and in the future, our country needs strong leadership, but it doesn't mean authorotarian and anti-democracy. Strong leadership means being brave in taking risky decision although it is not popular," he said.
