Yogyakarta- The students of Islamic studies Faculty (FAI) actually have specific resource to respond to various problems in society. Through Islamic understanding obtained in the campus, they criticize and offer solutions to the problems. Through intereresting writing, they can do 'dakwah' or Islamic teaching.

That was stated by Irwan Widiarto, opinion editor of Jawa Pos, when talking in the event “Training on Article Writing” at UMY integrated campus on Tuesday morning (6/12).

During the event conducted by FAI UMY, Irwan gives tips to students in order that their opinion is published in media. "The main capital for writing is reading. If we want to be an excellent writer, we should be an excellent reader. Idea coming from much reading can be related to up to date topic. That's why it is important for opinion writer to keep paying attention to topics published in media," said he.

Irwan also says that writing opinion for students can be started with discussion. "Decide the theme of discussion, then try to respond each other. The talk can be opinion. Of course good opinion must have foundation. That's why, try to see books," he said.

According to Irwan, all writing theories cannot be maximal if there is no rigorous practice. “Writng needs practice, so write continously. Don't give up easily. If our writing is rejected, revise and send it again. Besides, try to see "tajuk rencana" or "editorial" from each media. usually the column puts hot topics in the local, national, and international level," he said.
