Malang- General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive, Prof. Dr. Din Syamsuddin, MA, says that it is a high time to get rid of wrong "patriotic nationalism" and place it with "rational patriotism". Wrong patriotic nationalism is if it is done uncontrollably. When feeling disturbed a bit, the reaction is very uncontrollablly demonstrative.
“We should focus more on nationalism by increasing competitiveness and strengthening high struggle," said Din. He talked about various political problems and motivate young cadres in front of 400 cadres of Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) on Friday (9/12) at UMM Dome.
Din was present at UMM upon the invitation from District Executive of IMM to give general lecture (studium generale) prior to the event of Diklat Politik Nasional (Dikpolnas) or National Politic Training and Education on Sunday (11/12). “We are proud and grateful because Father Din can come to this event," said the Chairman of IMM Malang, Taufik.
The event was attended by UMM rector, Muhadjir Effendy, The Chairman of DPD IMM Jatim, Ali Mutohirin, the Chairman of PDM Kota Malang, Baroni, the Chairman of PDM Malang regency, Mursidi, and other members of autonomous organization within Muhammadiyah.
According to Din, this country is facing 2 big problems. They are moral illiteracy and spiral of stupidity. Moral illiteracy is moral handicap, while spiral of stupidity is the circle of stupidity or the spiral of immorality.
Due to those two problems, this country is more corrupt and is trapped in the circle of stupidity. Falsehood, hypocrisy, and manipulation happen in all sectors. Organized crime is also done by the nation. Through the regulation of economy, for example, the nation legalizes the annexation of our natural wealth by foreigners. “What makes us sad is corrupt behavior is done by young politicians," said Din.
On the other side, leadership weakness is also a serious problem. Leadership and management don't run effectively. "This country is mismanged since its leader doesn't want to manage," Din critisized.
Din urges young generation of Muhammadiyah to take an important role. “Muslims must be a determinant factor. At least they become an effective factor of problem solver,” said he.
Muhammadiyah, according to Din, doesn't have to be big in terms of number, but it must be strong in quality. "Even though it is small, its role must be very big to this country," said the professor in UIN (State Islamic University) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta ini.
Through value politic or accomodative politic, Muhammadiyah members can take a role in various political paries. However, noble values of Muhammadiyah organization must be upheld, and they do not just chase the career.
